Paid research and internships are an integral part of CSTEP—to introduce undergraduate students to the culture of research, provide insight related to your major and expose you to the rigors of graduate study. The CSTEP Research Internship Program exposes selected students to research and career opportunities in their major. If you are a part of this program, CSTEP will work with you to identify faculty research mentors or internship supervisors.
During the academic year, interns work for 12 weeks per semester under the guidance of a research mentor or internship supervisor. You will be assigned a research project for up to 10 hours per week, at the discretion of the research or internship supervisor. If selected, you will be awarded a research stipend from CSTEP during your research or internship experience.
The CSTEP Summer Research Program is an intense eight week program designed to enhance the competitiveness of talented underrepresented students pursuing STEM and the allied health professions. To apply you must have at least sophomore status with the completion of at least one year of science coursework. A history of academic excellence, a strong interest in research, and letters of recommendation will serve as selection criteria. A research stipend of $3,000 will be awarded.
The summer program takes place from the end of May through the middle of July. Applications (PDF) are typically due in March of each year.
