The Academic Resource Center provides a welcoming and academic environment at UB for student who are members of the Cora P. Maloney College (CPMC). We are available to assist all CPMC students to reach their full potential, by providing high-quality support to students. If you are not a member of the CPMC and require tutoring assistance these resources may help you (this hyperlink goes to another UB website).
We incorporate learning strategies, thus creating life-long learners. In order to achieve this the ARC provides:
Walk-in Tutoring: Tutors are scheduled for specific days and times for our high demand courses. These set times will allow students to walk in to receive assistance for a one hour tutoring session. Times scheduled will be at peak hours between 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. and availability varies by semester. Walk-in tutoring will likely be conducted in small groups.
Appointment Tutoring: Students can receive one-on-one tutoring appointments by calling the ARC (716-645-6693), or stopping by to speak to either a Graduate Assistant or the Tutorial Coordinator to create the appointment. Appointments can be made weekly or one time only.
Study Group Sessions: Our study group sessions are run by tutors and organized by course and instructor. Schedules of study groups can be found on our website or posted in the ARC. Additional study group sessions that are scheduled prior to exams will be posted in the ARC only.
Academic Coach: Academic coaches are available by appointment. An academic coach can help you with time management, organization skills and study strategies based on your preferred learning styles. Appointments can be made by filling out the Academic Coach Request Form online, calling the ARC (716-645-6693), or stopping by to speak to either a Graduate Assistant or the Tutorial Coordinator to create the appointment.
Study Area and Computer Lab: There are several tables along with a few study carrels for students to work on their assignments and other course material. The computers have all of the standard UB software along with printing ability.
Workshops: There are several different types of scheduled workshops available to CPMC students. Just check the bulletin board announcements. Workshops sponsored by the ARC include topics such as test taking tips, basic study strategies, learning styles, increasing your memory and more.
The Center is open seven days a week during the academic year. Saturday and Sunday are great days to connect with a tutor!
