The University at Buffalo is proud to be participating with Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE). Recently UB hosted its induction society event. Check out our facebook album to view all the photos.
Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) was organized and founded in 1989 at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Responding to an increased need to acknowledge the continuing successes of students in academic development programs and recognizing that students who share similar experiences could serve as significant role models for others, a Greek letter honor society was proposed by Dr. Elbert Saddler.
A university psychologist and counseling coordinator for the ACT 101 Program, Doctor Elbert Saddler identified eligible students and alumni to form the nucleus of XAE's founding members. Directors of Student Support Services Programs, McNair Scholars Programs, Educational Opportunity Programs, and other academic developmental programs at many colleges and universities have hailed its formation. The National Association for Developmental Education has officially endorsed Chi Alpha Epsilon as an honor society for developmental education students. The Council for Opportunity in Education is also encouraging participation.
On April 26, 2012, the Educational Opportunity Program, Student Support Services, McNair and the Collegiate Science Technology Entry Program were proud to induct the first nine members into the Chi Alpha Epsilon chapter at the University at Buffalo. Ms. Kirkshinta Turnipseed was granted permission by Dr. Elbert Sadler to preside over the induction and pinning ceremony which was observed by honorary members of the university community.
The Zeta Epsilon Chapter at University at Buffalo supports the purpose of Chi Alpha Epsilon, which is to “promote continued high standards, foster increased communication among its members, and honor the academic excellence of those students admitted to college via developmental program pathways.” Our induction ceremony is held during the spring semester, and in the fall semester we honor our inductees’ academic achievements at our annual EOP Honors Convocation and Award Ceremony. The Zeta Epsilon Chapter at UB strongly encourages highly-motivated students with a desire to maintain academic excellence to consider joining our society.
